Introducing: Adelaide Builder Gary Barlow
He might be the new kid on the Stroud block, but Adelaide builder Gary Barlow is certainly no newbie to the building business, having been in the residential building game for 30 years.
“I enjoy working in different places, and meeting different people, I also like the variety of jobs I do and I also get a lot of job satisfaction,” he tells us.
Get to know Gary, your builder in Adelaide…
My experience is quite extensive as in England a builder will perform many trades, which is very common. My early jobs were kitchens and bathrooms where I learnt all aspects of the trades including joinery, plastering, tiling, electrics and plumbing – both water and gas.
I was self-employed by the age of 19 and eventually landed a contract to install 18th-century French reproduction kitchens and bathrooms for wealthy clients all across England.
At the age of 25, I started to do more and more building work and renovation work associated with kitchens and bathrooms. Then it became a lot more about doing full house renovations, extensions and also a lot of heritage listed work. My oldest project was a renovation on a church built in the 1500s.
In England, I am qualified in carpentry and joinery, and a licensed plumber, gas fitter and electrician. In Australia, I’m a licensed builder, cabinet maker, plumber and gas fitter.

I liked the plans and the support from head office. I also liked the idea of joining a large group of builders with a variety of experience that I can tap into if needed, and the fact that nobody was in South Australia yet.
The Hills is a small community and a builder can build up a good reputation quickly especially if that builder has the winning Stroud Homes system behind them!
Gary and his wife Rachelle want to set the bar so high that other builders can’t reach it.
I have a passion for building. I love the idea of taking something on a plan or drawing and turning it into a place you can touch and walk around in. I love the idea that I’m creating shelter for a family to grow and live in and hopefully make lots of happy memories.
Adelaide Hills is a high-growth area with many new estates popping up. The two key suburbs are Mount Barker and Nairne, which are being subdivided quickly.
Mount Barker is one of the fastest growing in-land towns in Australia and what a lot of people don’t realise is that it’s only 30 mins to the city and/or the beach.
The team at Stroud Homes Adelaide do not only build in the Adelaide Hills but in the metro area, North of Adelaide, down all of the coast, all the way to Victor Harbour.
There is a lot of land being released on a regular basis, and there is massive growth to come. There are various blocks mainly around the 400-500m2 range but there is also room for the acreage designs.
Value for money and a good team behind him/her.
The builder should guide them through their choices of land so they don’t have a nasty surprise after it’s purchased. They should be able to speak to the builder when they need to, and expect honest answers on questions they might have – even if it’s not what they want to hear!
The Montego 450, because it’s got everything any family could want or need. One that’s a bit less costly would be the Wildflower 190 with granny flat which has a space for everyone and the grandparents get to downsize and spend quality time with their grandkids.
