Modern Living in Brisbane East
Lisa Adams from Stroud Homes Brisbane East talks us about the changing landscape of modern home design, what her customers are looking for in a home in 2018 and why you should choose them to build for you in Brisbane East.
From open plan living to super functional kitchens, Lisa knows what a family needs from a home as it’s her family building for yours.
I think the home has changed with the change in the modern lifestyle. With technology, we spend more time in our bedrooms, which means people are after bigger bedrooms.
The biggest change, however, has definitely happened to our living areas. Open plan living is the most important aspect to our homes now. We like to feel open and be able to let the light in.
There is also a big trend in outdoor living. The big alfresco areas and outdoor kitchens are built to create the ultimate entertaining area.

Families are so busy now! The time they spend at home is generally spent multitasking. Combining the kitchen dining and family rooms means that families can still be in the one room while doing a range of different things, like cooking dinner, completing homework or watching a movie.
The open style also allows for a bright, clutter free living area. It brings the outdoors in.

I believe it is definitely the heart of the home. Like the old saying, a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Food is such a huge part of our lives and being able to cook in a beautiful kitchen, with top quality appliances, is the way to a good cook’s heart I think!
It is also the room that really catches the eye of all that walk through the home. Especially now with open plan living, kitchens aren’t hidden around the corner anymore.
I love the layout in the Kirra designs. The biggest selling point of this design for me is that you can walk straight from your car into the butler’s pantry and kitchen with your groceries.
The bench looks out over the family rooms and the alfresco area too. The whole functionality of this kitchen design is really what I love.
I think the Butler’s Kitchen and Walk-in Pantries are so popular because they are allowing for more space in our favourite room of the house. We all have more appliances to cook with these days, and little space to store them.
The Butler’s Kitchen allows us to cook and make a mess out of sight. This means if you are entertaining you can keep your main kitchen spotless for the guests and have all your preparation happening behind the scenes.

Balance. Balance between family time and space from the teenagers. Balance between a big house and keeping some backyard. Balance between having it all and a budget. These are the things we are great at. Working a plan to suit the needs of the family and the block.
Building a new home can be quite a daunting process. There is so much information out there and unfortunately so many horror stories of what can go wrong in a build.
I think that having our quoting process and build as simple as possible and as ‘black and white’ as possible, gives our clients the security they need when coming to building a new home.
“I always let our clients know that building a new home should be an exciting experience, not a stressful one. And this is what we strive for at Stroud Homes.”
We aren’t one of the big guys. You deal directly with the builder and we have the bonus of competitive pricing that you see with bigger builders.
When you come to us, you can meet with David, the builder anytime. We have a small family and understand what is important to families. It is our family building for your family. And our clients are not just a number, they matter to us.

Well, what can I say about the East side of Brisbane apart from… It is amazing! Where else can you live so close to the water and so close to the city. It has such a sense of community.
There is always something happening on the weekends. From festivals to markets to even spending the day at the Wynnum water park that sits on the water edge.
