Northern Rivers Top Design Trends in 2020
We are well and truly into the new year and it’s time to start looking at what new trends and changes in home designs & interior looks are likely to be seen in 2020.
Together with Stroud Homes Northern Rivers owner Nicky Lowson, we bury our heads in some interior design expert articles to try and make out what will become popular demands in home & interior design in the near future.

The Marie Kondo trend of simplifying or de-cluttering will continue to have an influence on important spaces such as the kitchen.
Butler’s pantries will therefore still be a popular choice as hidden appliances and extra storage is the key to a tidy uncluttered kitchen.
People are also custom designing their wardrobe spaces to make the best use of it with well-planned cabinetry.
“We see more customers taking interest in the external finishes, and here on the Northern Rivers we do not build many face brick homes,” says Nicky.
“We generally find people want a mix of materials such as clad and render and prefer the skillion, mountain or coastal façades that often feature stone work or wood to make a home with instant street appeal.”
Moreover, the entry itself and ‘foyer” has been said to be a more thought out area on the home recently.
More people want to choose and feature a front door that is large and attractive, plus having a wet area/drop zone with furnishings will continue to be popular.
Colours are about looks but they also create a mood or feel in a room or space. 2020 predictions seem to conclude the grey hues are phasing out and dark, rich colours will be on trend as people crave to achieve a cozy feel at home.
Black will continue to be one of these colours with products such as our Reece ranges for kitchens and bathrooms allowing a gorgeous array of black tap-ware.
Last year, Stroud Homes Northern Rivers held the official opening for the all-new Stroud Office and Selection Studio, which turned out a great success according to Nicky.
“We are proud of our team for pulling together a great space upstairs for colour selections. Our customers love seeing the Inclusions displayed where they can touch, colour match and be inspired and helped to make their dream home look amazing.”
“We find that talking to our customers and finding out about their story and what they hope to achieve in their new home brings out some design elements on a personal level,”
“People draw inspiration from their travels, a favourite holiday, adventures and from nature. They try to bring a little of that into their home as it is created from special memories and experiences, so why not have that feeling brought into a new home.”
Aside from these predictions, Nicky believes changes are needed and wanted more than ever for more sustainable living, more renewable solar energy, water tanks, and energy efficient products which will become the norm in the future of new housing.
“I believe value and quality, and not necessarily the size of a home, will be important as people are happy to live more sustainable and efficiently in their environment and community versus excessive spaces.
All in all, 2020 is set to see more beautiful Stroud Homes houses emerge around the Northern Rivers region and many more families completing their new home dream.
“We are heading full steam ahead into the new year,” concludes Nicky.
