Stroud Homes Options for Downsizers and Empty Nesters

Stroud Homes Options for Downsizers and Empty Nesters

Advantages of smaller home designs

Downsizers or Empty nesters (which are parents whose children have grown up and left home) usually want to live in a smaller home in order to free up some time, and possibly some cash too.

Having a smaller home and block usually requires less time to clean and maintain, as well as often being more conveniently located closer to shops and other conveniences.

“Downsizers can gain a financial advantage when transferring from a larger property to a smaller property,” explains Stroud Homes Port Macquarie builder Joel Freeman.

“In the case of older, retired couples, this financial advantage can sometimes be key in underpinning their financial security throughout their golden years.”

Ask Yourself This:

Before deciding to sell off your current property in order to downsize, there a few questions you should ask yourself, says Joel:

  • How much are you going to get for your existing home?
  • How much are you prepared to spend on your new home?
  • Where are you planning to live on while building your new home?
  • Are you open to rent for a period of time while the new home is being built?

“We’ve had a few clients opting to get a caravan or camper and doing some travelling while their house is being built,” adds Joel.

Storage

As a lot of people would have collected a lot of things over the years living in a bigger home, so storage in your new home can be very important when downsizing.

“Storage is a very important part of any design and a lot of ours already include a lot of storage – but we can always add more,” Joel says.

“We are very flexible with our designs,”
