Happy New Year from Megan & Patrick!

It has been a massive year for Stroud Homes Toowoomba owners Megan Thomas and Patrick Neville, who describer 2019 as “challenging, rewarding and fun.”

Earlier this year the couple decided to take over the company from previous owner Greg – but don’t think the pair lacks experience within the building industry, on the contrary!

Megan has worked for many different types of builders throughout her career, and Patrick has a Diploma in Building Construction and has a past which is very much hands-on tradie based.

We chat to Megan about the full-on year they’ve had…

What was the highlight for your franchise in 2019?

Patrick and myself purchasing the franchise from Greg has been a massive highlight, not only for the year or the franchise, but for ourselves both personally and professionally.

We are now fully into the swing of things and are extremely proud of how our year went considering it was our first as new owners.

Another highlight for me was the overwhelming response we had towards our pledge to donate 700 trees to the Crow Nest community following the devastating bushfires that recently took place.

We featured front page of the Chronical two days after putting a post up regarding the donations and have since been shared hundreds of times.

We are currently liaising with the Emu Creek reforestation task force regarding the donation as well as locals affected by the fires.

What was the biggest hurdle you or your business overcame in 2019?

For myself it was stepping into business owner shoes.

It has been difficult at times managing the additional pressure and expectations of being the owner, but it has been well worth it when I get the chance to sit back and reflect on what we have been able to provide to our clients.

Any particular areas/suburbs in your region where it has been more popular, or becoming more popular, to build new homes?

I think our Display Home estate The Avenues of Highfields had a great year with Stage 2 almost sold out and civil works for Stage 3 now in place.

However, many of our 2019 clients did buy larger blocks rather than purchasing within estates.

This meant that lots of site evaluations were done which is one of my favourite parts of the job! As well as the homes being a little big larger and of more acreage style.

Do you have any personal or business-related New Years’ resolutions or goals for 2020?

A personal goal is to do an overseas trip as a family. Pat and I took five days off to experience New Zealand this year and we would love to go back with our kids, or explore somewhere entirely new.

In regards to our business goal, it would be the need to grow the Sales Team from two to three or four due to the amount of builds we are doing, which is a great sign that clients are happy and we’re doing something right!

What are you most looking forward to in 2020?

I think 2020 will be a year of growth for us including the team and the number of builds we do.

We are working with investors at the moment regarding our new Acreage Display Home coming 2020. This will be extremely exciting for not only us but the Toowoomba region as it will be the first acreage display home in the area!
