Cutting and filling the natural ground for your home may be required to provide a level and structurally stable foundation for your home. The required cut and fill is determined via a Contour Survey on the land. Contour Surveys can be confusing to read the first time, see explanation below.
Depending on the size of your land as well as the severity of the cut and fill, will depend if retaining is required. The cut and fill will be able to battered most of the time on acreage. Battering is when the soil is gently sloped taking the new level to ground level.
If your land has an extreme slope >3m or is a particularly difficult site, it may be an idea to consider a split level design. Keep in mind these designs are more complex than a standard home design as there are some factors that need to be taken into consideration early in the design process. This also adds to the cost.
